Matthew 17:1-8 NKJV
Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; [2] and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. [3] And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. [4] Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, "Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah." [5] While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!" [6] And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. [7] But Jesus came and touched them and said, "Arise, and do not be afraid." [8] When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.
During my second visit to Israel, we visited Mount Tabor (one of the sites thought to be the Mount of Transfiguration).

We were driven, at breakneck speed, in beat up Mercedes taxis, by crazy Arab drivers, up the winding narrow road to the top.
There was nothing too spiritual about that experience, but it was slightly scary!
But, travel back in time, to visualise the strenuous journey of Jesus' closest disciples to be alone with Him on that mountain top.
Cut off from all distractions, they began to see Jesus transform into His Glorious, Kingly Self - right before their eyes.
It must have been so surreal to then have Moses and Elijah appear and begin to talk with this bright-shining Jesus.
Peter blurted out some silly idea about staying there, the kind of thing that we say when things get scary.
So, God the Father, interrupts, speaking from a bright cloud, telling them to listen to His Beloved Son.
It's an unimaginable privilege when Jesus leads to an isolated, mountain top experience with Him.
Free from worldly interruptions, we are able to see Jesus as He really is: triumphant and glorious, reigning over the landscape of this earthly life.
No need to speak at that point, but just listen to His Word and know that He is in control.
Is Jesus calling you close like that - leading you up and away from daily chores and cares to recharge and be renewed in His Presence?
Of course, you won't stay on that mountain - but you will be left with the exhilaration of seeing only Jesus.
