Ephesians 6:13 AMPC
Therefore put on God's complete armour, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place].
1 Chronicles 11:13-14 AMPC
He was with David at Pas-dammim [where David had long before slain Goliath], and there the Philistines were gathered for battle, where there was a plot of ground full of barley or lentils; and the men [of Israel] fled before the Philistines. [14] And Eleazar [one of the Three] stood in the midst of that plot and defended it and slew the Philistines [until his hand was weary, and his hand cleaved to the sword], and the Lord saved by a great victory and deliverance.
When the enemy is loud and aggressive it's so easy to retreat, runaway from the danger, as we saw Saul and his armour bearer doing, in yesterday's passage.
In that scenario the enemy is encouraged by the cowardice and overtakes anyway. Defeat is the inevitable result of retreat.
In the New Testament, referring to the spiritual battle we all face, we're called to stand, clothed in God's armour, wielding the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.
Eleazar, one of king David's mighty men, fought off the Philistines so strongly that his hand cleaved to his sword.

Oh that believers in Jesus would take such a stand in the spiritual battle facing us. Let our hands "cleave" to Biblical truths and stand our ground on the absolutes of Jesus, the Cross, Resurrection and the coming Kingdom.
May we hold fast to the sanctity of life in and out of the womb and not bend to secularism or foreign gods.
It's time to stand firmly for Christ and let the Lord grant a great victory be we ever so weary!
