The Cross

"Nothing in my hand I bring

Simply to the Cross I cling

Foul I to the Fountain fly

Wash me Saviour or I die"

"There is a Fountain filled with Blood

Drawn from Immanuel's veins

And sinners plunge beneath that flood

Lose all their guilty stains"

Hallelujah for the wonder of forgiveness we find at the Cross of Jesus

"Not the labour of my hands

Could fulfill the laws demands

Could my tears forever

Could my zeal no respite know

All for sin could not atone

You must save and You alone"

I need reminding afresh each day of the ONLY thing between me and Divine Wrath is the Cross of Jesus.

There's no balancing act between my good and bad deeds, no ledger account that I can pay or write off.

All, yes, all my good bits is like presenting the Lord with a used tampon or sanitary pad, expecting Him to be impressed!

Isaiah 64:6 NLT

We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags (used menstrual cloths). Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind.

That's why Jesus HAD to suffer, bleed and die in my place, take my punishment on Himself.

It is devastingly, incredibly amazing that He should love me that much.

In Gethsemane He recoiled at the thought of "drinking the Cup of God's Wrath", but went on anyway because of pure unconditional love.

"Amazing love how can it be that You my God should die for me."

"Tis mystery all the Immortal dies

Who can explore this strange design?"

1 Corinthians 1:18-19,23-25 NLT

The message of the Cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very Power of God. [19] As the Scriptures say, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and discard the intelligence of the intelligent." [23] So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it's all nonsense. [24] But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the Power of God and the Wisdom of God. [25] This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God's weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.

Hallelujah for the Cross of Jesus!

"When I survey the wondrous Cross on which the Prince of Glory died

My richest gain I count but loss

And pour contempt on all my pride"
