When leaders won't listen

Amos 1:1-2 GNT

These are the words of Amos, a shepherd from the town of Tekoa. Two years before the earthquake, when Uzziah was king of Judah and Jeroboam son of Jehoash was king of Israel, God revealed to Amos all these things about Israel. [2] Amos said, "The LORD roars from Mount Zion; His Voice thunders from Jerusalem. The pastures dry up, and the grass on Mount Carmel turns brown."

Both ancient Israel and Judah had hardened their hearts against God. The leaders had become dull towards God's Laws and were "hell bent" on doing things their own way - they were wise in their own eyes, but fools in God's!

So, the Lord raised up a rough and ready guy, a shepherd and sheep breeder, untaught, but one willing to listen to and speak for the Lord. He was an outsider from Tekoa.

Biblical Tekoa was a town in the ancient kingdom of Judah. It sat on a hill 2,700 feet high, about 10 to 12 miles south of Jerusalem and 5 miles southeast of Bethlehem. This location sits on the edge of the Judean Desert.

From outside the confines of the corrupted cities, Amos spoke the accusations that the Lord had against them.

In His mercy, the Lord warned of impending judgement TWO YEARS before disaster came, providing ample time to turn from wickedness.

The Lord "ROARS" - there was no excuse for not hearing. He "makes" His Voice heard (verse 2).

It's a solemn moment when God has to shout and roar, when He has to bring natural disaster in order to wake a people up from complacency and indifference!

Perhaps modern Britain is in such a godless state?

Broken vows by crown, church and government; laws violating the sanctity of life of unborn and elderly; heinous crimes left unpunished and hidden from justice - these issues are all present here and now.

Doesn't God see, shouldn't He roar and make His Voice heard against corruption?

If spiritual leaders remain silent and deaf to His cries, won't He use whosoever will listen, to speak for Him?

Perhaps the untaught like Tommy Robinson, Young Bob and other ordinary folk are being used to show up the evils of the Rape Gangs and the march of radical Islam in this land?

Thank God for the bravery of Bishop Cei Dewar and Chris Wickland, the vexed vicar, for Rupert Lowe an MP, who are daring to speak truth to the powers that be.

Pray for those in leadership who are turning a deaf ear in their complacent ignorance, to be shaken to their false foundations. May they turn and repent or be removed from their influence.

Father God, please raise up and increase the boldness of God-fearing voices in this land. Turn us around in this nation to fear and revere Your Name all for the Glory of Jesus.
