Numbers 14:19-24 NKJV
Pardon the iniquity of this people, I pray, according to the greatness of Your mercy, just as You have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now." [20] Then the LORD said: "I have pardoned, according to your word; [21] but truly, as I live, all the earth shall be filled with the glory of the LORD- [22] because all these men who have seen My glory and the signs which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have put Me to the test now these ten times, and have not heeded My voice, [23] they certainly shall not see the land of which I swore to their fathers, nor shall any of those who rejected Me see it. [24] But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.
The spirit of this age is a selfish and corrupt one. Without knowing it, people are being deceived and slumbered into appeasement. As if blind and deaf they call evil good and good evil.
Neville Chamberlain famously came back from his meeting with Hitler, waving a piece of paper and proclaiming "Peace in our time!" He had the spirit of appeasement, cowtailing before the scourge of Nazism.
Of course Hitler reneged on his peace agreement and the Second World War broke out.
It took Churchill's "different spirit" to stand up and confront Hitler in a long hard battle.
We have another Chamberlain leading this land to destruction, giving full tilt to appeasing the accusing voices of racism and Islamaphobia. Moreover, opening the floodgates of abortion up to birth, annihilating our future generations, while illegals penetrate our land daily unimpeded.
Make no mistake we are in a war and war has no place for cowards. It calls for courage and boldness - "a different spirit!"
In the passage above, we read that Caleb had a different spirit (as did Joshua). When they spied out the Land, they saw opportunity, whereas the others saw only giants of opposition.
"Let's stay where we are, or, better still, go back to our captivity", they said.
Today, followers of Jesus need a different spirit, the Holy Spirit, to challenge the spirit of the age and bring us a revival of the brave, bold faith in Jesus that saw us take the good news around the globe.
We've heard the arrogant call of domination proclaimed in our capital city, just this week. They are parading like giants in the land.
Pray the Lord to raise up many mighty ones, like Caleb, who stand for Jesus and His Gospel Truth. May they have "a different spirit" to confront the appeasement of evil and destroy the compromise that waters down God's Holy Word.
Christ is King!
