Psalm 19:8 NKJV

The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes;

Psalm 19:8 NLT

The commandments of the LORD are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of the LORD are clear, giving insight for living.

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light."
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light."

Our puppy was born with an entropion (a condition where the eyelid rolls inward, causing the eyelashes or fur to rub against the eye's surface, leading to irritation and potential damage) in both eyes.

Each morning his eyes were clogged with a pusy discharge which hampered his vision. It had to be gently wiped away and cleansing drops put in, so that he could see. Of course, he kicked against it because it was painful.

Even after this, his eyes were only half opened and the infection would build up again. Then the process needed to be repeated throughout the day.

We made the decision to have his eyes operated on. Although it was costly, we loved him enough to put him out of his constant misery - which could have led to total blindness!

It was traumatic, he emerged from the procedure groggy and fitted with a cone so he couldn't remove the stitches.

He had to take daily medication and painkillers, and the cone meant he kept bumping into furniture and was restricted in his walks.

Yet, slowly his eyes began to heal and the stitches fell out, leaving him with clear eyes, infection free.

We too are born with our own "entropion" - our fallen nature clogs our eyes and infects the way we see things. If we carry on without the Lord we become blinded by our sin and deceived by the lies of the evil one.

Without the commands of the Lord as laid out in His Word, we are lost and blind.

Look at how the world has become more and more confused morally, not even knowing the difference between male and female in this woke culture.

Sin (turning away from God's moral commands) really does affect the way we see things, marring our vision.

Not that we need dead legalism to temporarily wipe away our infection.

No, Jesus took the costly step of going to the Cross so that each one of us could have clear spiritual eyes, wide open to see His Truth and follow Him.

We may have to have the "cone" of His commands to restrict us and keep us from damaging ourselves, but slowly, as we look to Him in His Word, our eyes become clear and we see reality and the way to live.

The old hymn says it right:

"I once was lost, but now I'm found, was blind but now I see."

Have you let Jesus restore your spiritual eyesight?

Matthew 6:22-23 NIV

22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!
