Revelation 22:12-13,16,20-21 NKJV
"And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. [13] I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last." [16] "I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star." [20] He who testifies to these things says, "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! [21] The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
The word that was put into my heart this morning by the Holy Spirit is "Even so, come Lord Jesus!"
So long ago these words were written down by John on the Isle of Patmos.
It seems a bit hollow now to read Jesus saying I am coming quickly, doesn't it, for it's been a l-o-n-g time - nothing quick in that, is there!
The greek word for quickly (ταχύ) here also means "suddenly" "unexpectedly" "swiftly".
A dear preacher JD Farag explains it as being at a time when things are "revving up".
Well, dear ones, just a look at the news, near and far, will tell you that events globally are indeed "revving up".
So how come our pulpits aren't ringing with the warning of Jesus' words in Revelation?
How come Christians like you and me aren't praying "Even so, come Lord Jesus"?
Paul echoes the same theme of the unexpected, sudden, swiftness:
1 Corinthians 15:51-53 NKJV
Behold, I tell you a mystery: We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed- [52] in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. [53] For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
Who among us doesnt long to be changed and given our immortal, incorruptible bodies?
Shouldn't we be longingly praying "Even so, come Lord Jesus"?
Let's not be taken unawares, looking down and around, but let's be looking up, ready for Jesus to take us away, like a thief in the night.
Hosea 6:3
So let us know—let us press on to know the LORD. As surely as the sun rises, He will appear; He will come to us like the rain, like the spring showers that water the earth.
Even so, come Lord Jesus, come!
