Jonah 2:8 NKJV

"Those who regard worthless idols Forsake their own Mercy.

Jonah 2:8 NLT

Those who worship false gods turn their backs on all God's mercies.

God has individually tailored mercy for each one of us - perfect mercy - that's made to measure for our fallen lives.

That uniquely personal mercy was eeked out, hand and heart crafted, with each of us in mind, by Jesus, our Messiah King, on the Cross of Calvary.

Those flagellated, vicious stripes, which Jesus absorbed into His yielded flesh, still cry out for healing and mercy to be dispensed as we plead in prayer.

There's no other Source to be found in earth or sky.

When we try to wriggle out of the Salvation pathway and turn to other forms of escape, even to idols or independence - then we do ourselves out of Our Heavenly Father's merciful resources.

I particularly like the way the NKJV expresses it - we "Forsake our own Mercy!"

Dear disobedient Jonah tried running from God's pathway, but it was futile - God is omnipresent!

In the belly of the great fish (of all places) he found God's mercy.

His beautiful prayer for mercy is recorded in his book.

Jonah 2:1-2 NKJV

Then Jonah prayed to the LORD his God from the fish's belly. [2] And he said: "I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, And He answered me. "Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, And You heard my voice.

We can pray it too! And, the Lord (in His unfathomable mercy), can even use the situation that swallowed us up and dragged us down to seeming destruction to vomit us up onto the good, dry pathway for our lives.

Jonah 2:10 NKJV

So the LORD spoke to the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

Yes, The Lord can even use a stomach upset for His Purposes - just watch!

Call on, draw on God's Infinite Mercy while the supply is so freely available - then pass it on.

Matthew 5:7 NKJV

Blessed are the merciful, For they shall obtain mercy.

How blessed with mercy am I?
