Matthew 24:42-44 NKJV

Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. [43] But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. [44] Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

Matthew 25:13 NKJV

"Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.

We live in a surveillance obsessed era - we're monitored online, CCTV cameras are posted everywhere across our towns and cities, supermarkets use cameras at self check outs and, of course, the dreaded speed cameras police our roads!

We ARE being watched!

But, as Christians, how much are we looking out for and guarding ourselves? How alert are we to the signs of the times?

Jesus' word and warnings prior to His Crucifixion, known as the Olivet Discourse, takes place on Mount Olivet (another name for the Mount of Olives).

Jesus tells us that we must be "on patrol" looking out for His Return. We shouldn't drop our guard so that we are robbed and duped into missing out.

Like a security guard constantly patrols a property to ensure there are no security breaches, shining a light in dark places and quickly responding to prevent any encroachment - so must each of us be alert and ready - watching out.

Matthew, Mark and Luke's Gospels all record this discourse to emphasise the importance of being prepared and well-armed spiritually.

Look at the way the world is shaping up and compare it to Jesus' prophecies - does it look like we're in the last days?

All the more reason to watch our inner lives to ensure that we're filled with the Holy Spirit and that there are no "security" breaches.

Has Satan broken into my "house" puncturing a hole in my spirit so that the precious Oil of the Holy Spirit has drained out? Has coldness replaced love?

I say to myself "wake up, watch out"!
