Psalm 57:1-3 NLT

Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy! I look to You for protection. I will hide beneath the shadow of Your wings until the danger passes by. [2] I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill His purpose for me. [3] He will send help from Heaven to rescue me, disgracing those who hound me. Interlude My God will send forth His unfailing love and faithfulness.

Can you picture David hiding deep inside a cave, secreted from Saul's men who were trying to kill him?

This is the anointed son of Jesse, pronounced, by the prophet Samuel, as God's chosen king to replace Saul.

He had already defeated the bellowing giant Goliath and cut off his blasphemous head with Goliath's own sword!

But now he was hiding in exile from Saul's jealously murderous intentions.

Just at this time he wrote this special Psalm - a prayer I have used in my own times of adversity.

Even in the tightest of tight spots David trusted that God's plan could not be thwarted even by the current king's hit squad!

It's easy to look at life with disillusionment, especially when under huge threats or troubles.

Yet, amidst the fiery trial, the challenge is to take up the armaments of praise to God who is ever faithful to His promises.

His purposes can never be thwarted - listen to David:

Psalm 57:2 NLT

I cry out to God Most High, to God who will fulfill His purpose for me.

Don't lose heart, you are God's work in progress - He will fulfill His purpose in your life!

Cry out to Him from your own dark cave (of pain, grief or hardship) and He hears and knows you are on His course for a glorious victory.

Romans 8:35,37 NKJV

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? [37] Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
