No reputation

Philippians 2:5-7 NKJV

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, [6] who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, [7] but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.

Let's break the Incarnation down in microcosm - Jesus, the Name above ALL names stripped Himself of everything to become man.

At the moment of conception, the earliest form of a human being is a single cell called a zygote. 

This happened when the Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary.

Luke 1:35 NKJV

And the angel answered and said to her, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.

The zygote is formed when a single sperm successfully penetrates and fuses with the egg (ovum) in the fallopian tube. This single cell is unique because it contains all the necessary genetic information—46 chromosomes, half from each parent—needed to develop into a new and distinct human organism. 

Immediately after fertilisation, the zygote begins a process of rapid cell division (mitosis) as it travels down the fallopian tube toward the uterus. It remains a single cell for the first 12 hours or so before dividing into two cells, then four, and so on, eventually becoming a solid ball of cells called a morula, and later a hollow ball of cells called a blastocyst, which implants in the uterine wall. 

In short, the Lord Jesus was literally reduced to a single cell and indeed had no reputation at conception - it's staggering in it's humility.

He made that demeaning decision to vacate Heaven's most exalted position in order to save us.

He is the Seed (sperma in Greek) prophecied in Genesis:

Genesis 3:15 NKJV

And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel."

In our degraded society, Mary would've been urged to quietly abort Jesus in order to save her betrothal to Joseph, such is our distain for life.

Thankfully Mary was brave enough to carry Jesus in her womb, even exhaling a wonderful prayer of thanks for the privilege.

Luke 1:46-48 NKJV

And Mary said: "My soul magnifies the Lord, [47] And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Saviour. [48] For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant; For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.

Be in no doubt, Mary's reputation took a hit when she became pregnant with Jesus - not many would've believed that she hadn't slept with Joseph!

Jesus, Mary & Joseph chose their reputation with God rather than "what the neighbours thought"...

That's part of the lesson and miracle of the Christmas Incarnation!
