Puffed up know it alls

1 Corinthians 8:1-3 GNT

Now, concerning what you wrote about food offered to idols. It is true, of course, that "all of us have knowledge," as they say. Such knowledge, however, puffs a person up with pride; but love builds up. [2] Those who think they know something really don't know as they ought to know. [3] But the person who loves God is known by Him.

This morning I read a passage in the Bible which seemed "locked up" to me. It sounded so full of theological jargon that its meaning became convoluted and hard to grasp.

Reading it over and over made things worse - like trying to open a flower bud before it is ready to bloom.

I concluded that it wasn't my time to understand that part - it was one of those "seeing through a glass darkly" passages!

That prideful search for knowledge lies within us all - the fateful pull of that forbidden tree in Eden still allures each of us.

Yes, the Holy Spirit is sent to lead us into all truth, but first and foremost to inspire and fill us with love for Jesus.

When we love Him, we want to be close to Him and we are known by Him.

When our roots are deep in Him the fruit of His love will grow.

At the end of the day what counts is that He knows us - yes - little ol' me!

Imagine being stuffed so full of theological knowledge but a dearth of love - standing before the Lord with a mega Bible under the armpit - and Jesus pronouncing: "Go away - I never knew you!"

Matthew 7:21-23 GNT

"Not everyone who calls me 'Lord, Lord' will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only those who do what my Father in Heaven wants them to do. [22] When the Judgment Day comes, many will say to Me, 'Lord, Lord! In Your Name we spoke God's message, by Your Name we drove out many demons and performed many miracles!' [23] Then I will say to them, 'I never knew you. Get away from Me, you wicked people!'

Do I really LOVE Jesus? More importantly does He know me?
