Those of you who are old enough will remember Julie Andrews singing "My favourite things" in the Sound of Music. The little girl had tipped toed into her room, afraid of the storm. So Maria conjured up the song to divert her attention and calm her down.

Recalling those favourite things drove away the dread of each thunder clap. Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens.. etc.. I simply remember my favourite things and then I don't feel so bad".. !!

So, we read in this verse, God's perfect precepts or statutes make the heart rejoice! Let's look at the word precept - the dictionary defines it as "general rules intended to regulate behaviour or thought". God has an immutable Statute Book laying out His Prescription for the way to live life. Taking these "prescriptions" on board lead to deep inner joy, a rejoicing heart, even in the midst of those "thunder claps" that assault our lives.

Can I be like that small child in the Sound of Music, going to the Lord [not to Maria!] at the sound of thundering trials and tribulations, and ask Him to remind me of the "Favourite Things" in His Word.

His Truth and Justice will prevail, even though events seem ever so unfair and painful.

Psalm 37:3-4 NKJV

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good;

Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.

Delight yourself also in the Lord,

And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
