A sustaining word
Isaiah 50:4-6 TPT
The Lord Yahweh has equipped Me with the anointed, skillful tongue of a teacher- to know how to speak a timely word to the weary. Morning by morning, He awakens My heart. He opens My ears to hear His voice, to be trained to teach. [5] The Lord Yahweh has opened My ear, and I did not resist; I did not rebel. [6] I offered My back to those who flogged Me and My cheek to those who tore out My beard. I never hid My face from demeaning insults or from those who spit on Me.
The above prophecy describes exactly our precious Lord Jesus.
In His humanity, after laying aside His kingly glory, He had to discipline Himself to spend time with His Father to gain a sustaining Word for the day ahead.
If the perfect Lamb of God had so to do, how much more we "broken earthen vessels" need to open our own ears for that sustaining word !
God's Word is so much more than mere printed or digital letters on a page, smartphone or tablet.
When you meditate on the fact that all of Creation was spoken into being at the behest of His Command, then we should value, above everything, what He says.
How do we know what He says?
Read the Word, listen to the Word, digest and memorise God's Word.
Let it become a part of you, govern your decisions and attitudes to life.
In a world where we're bombarded with all sorts of crazy ideas and proclamations from every direction, we need the sanity of Scripture to navigate our way through the maze of this chaos.
Back in the day, cynical Pilate asked Jesus "what is truth?" - he had seen and heard so much on his travels, he'd concluded that there were no absolutes.
We now are in the midst of extreme cynicism, many of us are little "Pilates" doubting everyone - our leaders fail us, our courts betray justice and our media deceives us.
We need some guiding light and leadership to point us in the right direction.
Jesus is the Word made flesh and is THE Truth.
If we listen and open our ears, He will give us His sustaining Word to guide us through THIS day and EACH day.
