Proverbs 1:28-33 NKJV

"Then they will call on Me, but I will not answer; They will seek Me diligently, but they will not find Me. [29] Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the LORD, [30] They would have none of My counsel And despised My every rebuke. [31] Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own fancies. [32] For the turning away of the simple will slay them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them; [33] But whoever listens to Me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil."

I listened to a podcast by a member of the new atheist movement. Interestingly enough he said he felt he'd been robbed of meaning, tradition and mystery by his secular upbringing!

He didn't want his children to be brought up as he had been, so he'd started going to church along with his Christian wife.

As of this moment he's still not a believer, but he now calls himself an agnostic!

What he fails to realise is that God's wisdom is calling out to him, giving him the opportunity to hear and listen.

Proverbs 1:20-23 NKJV

Wisdom calls aloud outside; She raises her voice in the open squares. [21] She cries out in the chief concourses, At the openings of the gates in the city She speaks her words: [22] "How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity? For scorners delight in their scorning, And fools hate knowledge. [23] Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.

Somehow this guy sounded as if he was doing God a favour by going to church - what a condescending approach to the Lord.

We've reached such a complacent state in the western world, thinking there's no God, no absolute truth and no judgement to fear. We can live as we like, impervious to God's Presence, Laws and Decrees.

At present there's still an open door of grace, a chance to turn and be reconciled to God through Jesus.

Once that window of opportunity is closed - what then? If we keep turning a deaf ear to the Lord - the consequences are more than dire.

The complacency of evil is truly diabolical and will end in damnation.
