The voice of the mob

Luke 23:18-23 NLT

Then a mighty roar rose from the crowd, and with one voice they shouted, "Kill Him, and release Barabbas to us!" [19] (Barabbas was in prison for taking part in an insurrection in Jerusalem against the government, and for murder.) [20] Pilate argued with them, because he wanted to release Jesus. [21] But they kept shouting, "Crucify Him! Crucify Him!" [22] For the third time he demanded, "Why? What crime has He committed? I have found no reason to sentence Him to death. So I will have Him flogged, and then I will release Him." [23] But the mob shouted louder and louder, demanding that Jesus be crucified, and their voices prevailed.

On this Good Friday, we read how the voice of the mob, in their emotional, whipped up fury, just shouted all the louder when presented with facts.

Pilate found nothing wrong with Jesus - fact!

Just a few days before the crowd had hailed Jesus as their Messiah, when He rode into Jerusalem on a donkey - now they wanted Him dead, executed in the most agonising way.

There is nothing logical about the voice of the mob. We've seen it week after week in London via the Pro-palestine protests, now the same mob supporting the ayatollah and the IRGC in Iran!

Try to interview them and all you get is abuse shouted louder and louder.

Eventually, Pilate gave into the mob and had Jesus crucified, all because he was scared of the potential rioting.

Our leaders are no different here in the UK. They placate the mob for malign reasons.

On this sacred day of Good Friday, block out the raucous anger of the mob and hear the gasping voice of Jesus who, even on the Cross spoke:

"Father, forgive them, they know not what they do!"

Realise that the mob is made up of individuals for whom Jesus laid down His Life. They desperately need His Truth and Salvation.
