John 1:14 NKJV

And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

That's.the Christmas mission statement in a nutshell.

Prior to Jesus' first coming, all the Jews had was the Word - on scrolls written or passed down verbally.

That's the way that they knew God, by the Word.

The Lord communicated that Word in the past via commandments written (words) on tablets of stone.

It was harsh, unyielding and sometimes spiritually terrifying:

Exodus 20:18-19 NKJV

Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar off. [19] Then they said to Moses, "You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die."

Then God disarmed us and Himself too, when He came in the flesh.

There is nothing and no one as vulnerable as a foetus - an embryo - a new born baby. Jesus went through all those stages to become flesh.

He took on our skin, but perfectly. He walked in our shoes (dwelt among us), but instead of messing up, as we all do, He was (is and will always be) FULL of grace and truth.

So rather than encountering God via mere words, we have a Person - the God-Man Redeemer. Someone with whom we can relate as a Friend, Saviour and King.

Celebrate the revealing of God in flesh this Christmas.

Luke 2:10-12 NKJV

Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. [11] For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. [12] And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger."

For unto us a Child is born.

Hallelujah!
