Victory

1 Corinthians 15:57 NKJV

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

All this past week Arsenal fans have been celebrating winning the Premier League title. When it happened there were spontaneous scenes of joy amongst the players and fans.

People ran onto the streets, put on their colours and joined together to sing songs, let off flares and fireworks!

What were they celebrating? The lifting of a 9kg trophy! Next season they have to give it back to be contested over again. A transitory victory indeed.

As believers in our Lord Jesus, we do not have a victory that lasts only a moment, a season. We have an eternal victory that Jesus won over sin and death on the Cross.

Like the Arsenal fans who celebrated this week, we didn't win the victory, but we share in what Jesus won on the Cross!

1 Corinthians 15:54-55 NKJV

“Death is swallowed up in victory.” g [55] “O Death, where is your sting? h O Hades, where is your victory?”

We can wave the Cross as an eternal victory trophy. Even when we die, we live because Jesus conquered death and sin for us.

He wants us to share in His Victory, not just in this life, but for eternity - we will be given our champions garments to wear before God's Throne, giving glory to Jesus forever!
