What the Word does

Psalm 119:25-32 NKJV
My soul clings to the dust; Revive me according to Your word. [26] I have declared my ways, and You answered me; Teach me Your statutes. [27] Make me understand the way of Your precepts; So shall I meditate on Your wonderful works. [28] My soul melts from heaviness; Strengthen me according to Your word. [29] Remove from me the way of lying, And grant me Your law graciously. [30] I have chosen the way of truth; Your judgments I have laid before me. [31] I cling to Your testimonies; O LORD, do not put me to shame! [32] I will run the course of Your commandments, For You shall enlarge my heart.
Often my nearest and dearest is incredulous that I run to God's Word each morning.
I'm sure he wonders what on earth can there be in that book which she finds so essential - surely she gets fed up of it!
Certainly I get fed, but not fed up!
This passage lays out the benefits of coming to God's Word (remember that Jesus IS the Word made flesh).
First there is revival of lost hope. Many times we've felt like our lives are nothing but dust and ashes with broken dreams and despair. God's word bring resurrection and revival.
Then there is the heavy weight of grief - how that can weaken us.
Psalm 119:28 CSB
I am weary from grief; strengthen me through your word.
Run to God's Word when grief overwhelms like a flood. It is the only solace we can find in such times.
If I need understanding and insight - it's there hidden in God's Word:
Psalm 119:32 CSB
I pursue the way of your commands, for you broaden my understanding.
Many times I've cried out to Jesus for the answer to some issue and He opens up some area of His insight in a problem.
Another version puts it like this:
Psalm 119:32 NKJV
I will run the course of Your commandments, For You shall enlarge my heart.
Coming to the Bible is in effect a meeting with the risen Jesus. In Him is an unending treasure trove of wisdom, truth and love.
Can't wait to meet Him anew today...
