Who is blind like my servant

Isaiah 42:19-20 AMPC

Who is blind but My servant [Israel]? Or deaf like My messenger whom I send? Who is blind like the one who is at peace with Me [who has been admitted to covenant relationship with Me]? Yes, who is blind like the Lord's servant? [20] You have seen many things, but you do not observe or apprehend their true meaning. His ears are open, but he hears not!

There's none so blind as those who will not see - this is a saying based on this passage.

It's true we can read the Scriptures yet not see or hear the message.

This passage was written primarily to Israel, particularly to those who were well versed in God's Word. Probably these "learned ones" could quote Scripture verbatim, but were blind to its truth and the Spirit that inspired them.

The ones who should be bringing the truth to the world were blind, so very blind. They just loaded religious burdens on the backs of the poor.

Jesus picks up the same theme when addressing the leaders who condemned Him.

Matthew 15:14 AMPC

Let them alone and disregard them; they are blind guides and teachers. And if a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a ditch.

Matthew 23:24 AMPC

You blind guides, filtering out a gnat and gulping down a camel!

Don't we see this in the leaders of our state church today?

They are learned in the ways of the world, but ignore the authority of the Bible!

Blind guides indeed.

But the blindness of Israel is not forever. There will be an awakening up ahead, and, even now, many are opening their eyes to the Scriptures.

Zechariah 12:10 NLT

"Then I will pour out a spirit of grace and prayer on the family of David and on the people of Jerusalem. They will look on Me whom they have pierced and mourn for Him as for an only son. They will grieve bitterly for Him as for a firstborn son who has died.

Pray for that Spirit to be poured out on Israel and for all believers who have failed to recognise the validity of Scripture.

May it not be said of us "who is blind like My servant".
