Deuteronomy 8:2,18 NKJV

And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. [18] "And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

It's very easy to remember the Lord in tough times because we see how events are too much for us and humbly drop to our knees.

But when circumstances are rosy, like a cake with a cherry on top, then our memories tend to quickly fade and we start to take the plaudits.

God knew it was likely to happen:

Deuteronomy 8:12,14,17 NKJV

lest-when you have eaten and are full, and have built beautiful houses and dwell in them; [14] when your heart is lifted up, and you forget the LORD your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage; [17] then you say in your heart, 'My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.'

Last night, after scoring a great goal against Bayern Munich, Noni Madueke was interviewed on live TV. He had just returned from a few weeks out injured. What was his first response?

"First of all I want to thank my Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!"

Of course, the interviewer quickly brushed this aside, but the Lord heard it and you can imagine our Heavenly Father saying: "That's My boy!"

Moreover, many fans who "worship" their football idols, heard it. It will have an effect on them and the Lord will use it to turn hearts around.

We may not have such a big audience, but are we giving Jesus centre stage in our successes?

In Deuteronomy, the Lord warns the Hebrews never to forget that it was He who brought them out of slavery and sustained them for 40 years in the wilderness. He knew how fickle are our hearts. We need bringing down to earth and reminding who should get the glory for victories in our lives.

Jesus, before His Crucifixion, gave us a simple "meal" to re-enact and remember it is He who gets the plaudits in our Salvation. It is His Body and Blood which has saved us and His ALONE is the praise, honour and glory.

Luke 22:19-20 NKJV

And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, "This is My Body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me." [20] Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the New Covenant in My Blood, which is shed for you.

Today and always REMEMBER.
