Psalm 8:1 AMPC
O Lord, our Lord, how excellent (majestic and glorious) is Your Name in all the earth! You have set Your glory on [or above] the heavens.
So, the Holy Spirit stopped me in the first few words of this Psalm ..
O Lord, OUR Lord...not just any old God, but OUR Lord, someOne who is precious and to whom we belong and who we treasure and value above all else... That is the Name that is excellent and majestic.
That Name is not to be dragged through the mud as a curse word or casually used as a "OMG" exclamation.
That Name will subdue all the nations of the Earth one day.
That Name is the only Name by which we can be saved.
That Name is to be set apart and treasured above every other name.
Would you let your mum's name and reputation be degraded and made fun of? Of course not! You would stand up for the one who carried you in her womb and lovingly brought you into the world, nurturing you as you grew up.
How much more should we value our Creator and Redeemer, who knitted us together in the secret place and chose us before the foundation of the world.
That Lord chose to leave Heaven and die on a cruel Roman Cross to take on our sin, pay our death penalty, to shower us with unconditional love and the promise of forgiveness and eternal life.
How peerless is that Holy Name, far above any other Name.
Protect that Name, honour and glorify that Name, cherish it forever.
